All Shells
Every Playable Shell in Mortal Shell II
In Mortal Shell II (also written Mortal Shell 2), the playable roster is built around Shells — the remains of defeated warriors you discover and inhabit as you explore. Once awakened, each Shell lets you play a different build, which is why the roster doubles as the game's class system: guides count nine shell entries in total (GameSpot, Game8), eight formally playable plus Harros, who is exclusive to the prologue and lost early on. The official lineup is Tiel the Acolyte, Proxima the Broodseeker, Genessa the Wayward, Lazlo the Justiciar, Smert the Apostate, Eredrim the Venerable, Sariel the Endless, and Gragu the Insatiable — the same eight names confirmed by the Devout Edition Upgrade's Obsidian Skin Pack, with Tiel, Eredrim, and Proxima first shown in the official Gameplay Reveal. Most of the roster is new to the series: only Eredrim and Sester Genessa return from the first game. Each Shell is a permanent unlock once discovered — some are found out in the open world, others come from boss encounters or specific items — and any Shell can be equipped through the Shell Keeper or any beacon. Each card below gives one Shell's identity and core combat style as described in the research materials.
Harros (Prologue Only)
The prologue-only shell. Harros is the vassal who helps you during Mortal Shell II's prologue. Although he can be obtained early on, players lose this shell and cannot keep it for the rest of the game.
Eredrim the Venerable
Riposte bruiser and one of two returning characters. Eredrim has the second-highest HP of any Shell, and his executioner passive stacks slaughter from riposting enemies, lowering the health threshold at which they can be executed. His shoulder bash and ethereal diapason deal break damage to open enemies for ripostes. Recorded motto: "Peace has a price."
Genessa the Wayward
Summoner with a twist. Genessa sends faithful doubles to fight in her place, striking with her equipped weapon and stacking phantom that detonates for area damage; her duality keeps her fighting as a stray version of herself after her shell is depleted. She returns from the first game in a special form that works differently from other Shells. Recorded motto: "Nothing is so broken it can't be made whole again"
Gragu the Insatiable
Healing brawler. Gragu's revered heart replaces innate healing with hearts replenished by defeating enemies, and his charged staggering blow can delete single targets or be modified to explode for area damage. He joins the roster at the One-Legged Wolf Tavern after you bring him the Heart of Vatra. Recorded motto: "The heart speaks no lies."
Lazlo the Justiciar
The armored tank. Lazlo has the highest HP and the highest damage reduction of all Shells while his armor is on. His retribution shockwaves apply burn and build a heat meter; at max heat he overheats for a more powerful blast before his armor briefly disappears on cooldown. Recorded motto: "Justice is not given, it is exacted."
Proxima the Broodseeker
Lightning hybrid. Proxima sits in the middle of the pack on HP and fights with Bio Sampler, a scorpion-style hook that pulls enemies to her or her to them, followed by lightning-infused area attacks and shock procs. Her grafted armor passive gives a chance to mitigate incoming melee and ranged damage. Recorded motto: "Purpose gives the soul its shape."
Sariel the Endless
Curse and pain specialist, typically the last Shell you find. Sariel fires parasitic thorns that apply curse, which nullifies the target's next melee strike and reflects the damage back, while his pain mechanic turns incoming damage into recoverable gray health restored by melee attacks. Recorded motto: "That path to perfection is paved with blood."
Smert the Apostate
Time-stopping glass cannon. Smert has very low health, but his Miracle ability lets him sacrifice half his current health to halt time, stack chaos on enemies with unarmed strikes, and detonate the stacks for massive damage when time resumes. Recorded motto: "Truth is the final revelation before death."
Tiel the Acolyte
Stealth and backstabs, and one of the earliest Shells you can reach — southeast of the Widow's Overlook beacon. Tiel has less HP than almost every other Shell, but his shadow dash and lingering shadows let him vanish mid-dodge and strike from behind, with poison synergy and back-attack bonuses multiplying the damage. Recorded motto: "Once you have nothing, you're free to take everything."
