Trial Sanctuary in Mortal Shell II: Location and Full Walkthrough

What the Trial Sanctuary Is

In launch-window guides and community threads, "Trial Sanctuary" refers to the Shrine of Trials, a dungeon in the Mushroom Village. Fextralife describes it as "a Dungeon in Mortal Shell 2. The entrance of this dungeon is found inside a chapel located at the Mushroom Village."

Official Open Beta material (June 2026) confirms that the open world contains optional dungeons and hidden mini-bosses, but it never names the Shrine of Trials. All mechanics below come from fan wiki, professional guide and community sources.

Location: The Chapel Behind the Mushroom Village Beacon

The dungeon's entrance is inside a chapel at the Mushroom Village. Fextralife: the door is located where the Grisha Hunter is situated, "just behind the beacon of the Mushroom Village," and requires the Chapel Key to open the door of the chapel. GameSpot describes the same dungeon revealed behind a locked tower door near the village, and Rock Paper Shotgun notes the locked door at the far end of the Grisha Hunter camp.

If you have not picked up the key yet, it is obtained at the illusory stone arch by the village bonfire — the Mushroom Village Key guide covers the route and the unresolved Chapel Key / Mushroom Village Key naming debate.

Walkthrough: King Statue, Stone Blocks, and the Knight

The order below follows Game Rant's full dungeon walkthrough, with Fextralife's notes on the same rooms. The dungeon is short but puzzle-heavy.

  1. Enter the chapel and ride the lift to the lower section (Fextralife). The opening room starts with a fight against four cultists (Game Rant).
  2. King statue puzzle: read the plaque that states "Gaze upon your king so true, back and back shall pass you through" (Fextralife), then look at the face of the statue and walk backwards towards the wall to reveal an illusory wall (Fextralife). Game Rant's version: approach the doorway opposite the statue, turn around to face it, and the wall disappears.
  3. First stone block puzzle: find the stone block and the pressure plate. "Attack the stone block from behind and then hit it again to move it toward the left. Once the block is positioned on the pressure plate, the mechanism will activate, and the doorway will open" (Game Rant).
  4. Second stone block puzzle: a later room uses two stone blocks and two pressure plates (Game Rant's walkthrough; Fextralife also notes a second room with two stone blocks).
  5. Defeat the spear-wielding knight guarding the dungeon's reward (Fextralife: "In the next room, you'll encounter a spear-wielding knight").
  6. Interact with the slab to obtain the Axe and Dagger weapon (Game Rant: "Interact with the slab to obtain the Axe and Dagger weapon").

A Reddit thread from the Open Beta shows players stuck in this area — "there's nothing I can set on the tile to open the door" — so the block placement is the most common sticking point. If a door stays shut, check that both blocks sit fully on their plates.
